Oh, my goodness - WE HAD A BLAST AT CAAS '06!!  We've been too busy to write up a review - and, it looks like everybody else on the net has, too..  But, here's a couple places to find some great pictures of it:  Texas Fingerstyle Guitar Music Room   Eddie Pennington's Web Site

Man, did we have a great time at the "coffee house" last night (07/04/06) here in Columbus, Ohio.  We had our own fireworks...  Visiting Gary Lambert from CA (on his way to CAAS) got together with his old Army buddy, Billy Tustin, and did we ever hear some super pickin'...  I think we might have some pictures to post later..

Jim Volk proved beyond all doubt that he is the reigning king of Ohio acoustic guitar last Thursday (04/27/06) at the Thirsty Ear here in Columbus.   (review)

Mark Hill, that new superb Canadian picker we've found recently, has asked us to help him decide whether to include certain tunes in his upcoming CD release. How about helping out by listening to his draft recording he did on his computer of Shiek of Araby - and, then hop over to our Message Board to give him your opinion and/or suggestions...  (Mark Hill Shiek of Araby)

Now, give him your opinion at OFGC Message Board..

You folks wanna hear some guitar pickin' that will get you right up and out of that chair?  Give Scotty Anderson a listen playing "I'll See You In My Dreams."   And, remember - he isn't using a "harmonizer" device - all those notes are HIS!!!!  Guaranteed you'll never want to play ISYIMD again...  You might even want to sell all your guitars... (lol)

By the way - we've added a "Scotty Talk" page to our web site to let you all read the latest e-news from Scotty's band.

Oh, I'm still a sucker for "home grown." - This time Chaz Mechenbier turn his recording equipment on when good friend and fab picker, Craig Goodwin, came over to his house.  (Are we are blessed here in Columbus, Ohio - or, what???)   "Chaz 'n Craig - Just Messin' Around"...

THE MONEY HAS BEEN RAISED! (05/20/06)  Thanks to all that supported this important save (below.)

Eddie Pennington
and the National Thumbpickers Hall of Fame needs our help in saving the last and only surviving guitar of Mose Rager - the West Kentucky man that single handedly influenced our club heroes. (click for more information)

Kenny Poole lost his battle with cancer today - Saturday, May 27, 2006.  The jazz world has lost one of it's great ones.  Our condolences go out to his family and legions of fans...  Rest in peace, my friend.

Hey, there's getting to be so many OFGC members that I can't remember what everybody looks like.  We've had a Members Pics & Lics page on this web site for quite awhile - but, not too many of you have sent in your pictures.  I'm going to start a separate Members Photo Album and will try to start it off by filling in some from our Past Pickin' Parties - but, how about everybody making an extra effort to e-mail me a good one of yourselves - with your name, city/state, guitar preference, and favorite guitarist.  Please Attach picture and Say Hello.

You gotta see this young Adam Fulara  play two guitars at once... finger style..  AWESOME!!!   (click)

OUR "POOLE" PARTY on Saturday, Jan 21st, 2006 was simply "wonderful."  (click for more info)  He was also inducted into our OFGC Hall of Fame  (HOF)

If you have a high speed internet access - click here to see a little of what Kenny played. Wanna go nuts??  Listen to this one - Brazil.. Awesome!

A good friend of ours, Maurice Jones, and one of the finest Merle Travis style guitar players remaining on the planet passed away a few weeks ago in Evansville, IN.  The club sent this silk wreath to his funeral to celebrate a life full of guitar music.
Our condolences go out to his lovely wife, Geneva, and family.  Seeing Maurice was one of the highlights of driving to any of the Muhlenberg County, Kentucky guitar events.  He will be greatly missed by all.  (We'll be posting a Tribute to Maurice shortly.)

Frequent OFGC Guest Picker, Ray Cummins, will be putting on a Christmas Concert on Friday, Dec 23rd in Cincinnati - 7:30 .  His "Pure Christmas" CD is my favorite album of his - has the best arrangment of "Jingle Bell Rock" ever recorded.  (And, I'm sure with some persuasion - he just might play it for you... (lol)

JD Norman has a Taylor 612-CE (natural color) for sale - $1,800:  juliandnorman@yahoo.com

Chaz Mechenbier
has a Boss DD-5 digital delay that he would take a $100 bucks for.   cmechenbier@yahoo.com

The latest edition of Fingerstyle Guitar Magazine (No. 59 ) has just hit the book stores.  GREAT STUFF in this issue:  Earl Klugh featured.  Also, Paul Yandell, Pete Huttlinger, and an awesome tune by Pierre Bensusan - and, many more!

I just bought Craig Dobbins' CD and tablature book "Acoustic Christmas" - and, it is a gem.  I would highly recommend it to any of you guys and gals that are trying to work up some tunes for the holidays.  Just the CD alone is worth the price of the package. Palmer Moore

Our old good buddy and great acoustic guitarist, Bill Dutcher, will be coming home to Ohio for Thanksgiving and will be performing at Sports-On-Tap in Hilliard, the night after Thanksgiving (Fri. the 25th) 9pm - 12am.  He'll be teaming up with his old cohorts, Mark Bringardner and Delyn Christian when they were the slightly less than internationally famous "The Saturday Night Social Club."

A good friend and member of OFGC, Larry Wright, has been a great financial supporter of our club for long time. Even though several strokes had made it nearly impossible for him to play guitar anymore - he still attended every Pickin' Party and most Tuesday Night Club Jams. Unfortunately Larry had another series of strokes awhile back that has him pretty much bed ridden. I know he'd love to get some cards and letters from you folks:
