Well, folks - it's finally
here. I had heard for years about a couple guys that
had some great audio recordings of Kenny Poole playing at
his favorite "restaurant" venues. Well, they
have finally surfaced with the "first" of several
releases (depending on how well this one sells) - and, I've got
to tell you that it is worth ten times the asking retail price
on CD Baby.

Kenny Poole has been my
favorite musician for a long time. He's one of the best
solo jazz guitarists I've ever heard, and with the release of
the CD some of his best performances will be available to the public.
Good news!!!
For those unfamiliar with Kenny's
magical playing, imagine a combination of George Van Eps
and Joe Pass flavored with the early inspiration from
local (Cincinnati) hero Cal Collins, sprinkled with just
the right amounts of Chet Atkins, Joao Gilberto
and Andres Segovia. His touch, feel, tone, groove,
and creative flow are a joy to experience. His playing has
the mark of genius, and has floored countless musicians who have
come in contact with his master.
While flying under the radar
during his lifetime, he nonetheless attracted the praise and
admiration of his idols, including Van Eps and Pass, as well as Tal
Farlow, Jimmy Raney, Herb Ellis and many other
legends of jazz guitar. When a guitar player came through
Kenny's hometown of Cincinnati, he was sure to look up the local
legend.
Cincinnati area audiences enjoyed
his music for fort years. But, he was relatively unknown
to the jazz public. He preferred working in restaurants
and small clubs where his subtle and mellow playing could develop
without the pressure and stress of traveling and hype He
procured steady solo gigs that lasted years, and even if the
venues were not world famous jazz clubs, the music produced at
these jobs was of the highest quality.
