Jim Volk Adds Tommy Emmanuel Tunes To His Repertoire - 3/25/05

Jim Volk is an Ohio icon of modern acoustic guitar with an amazing talent - and, lot's of stand up energy.  He plays mostly if not all originals, however, recently he attended a Tommy Emmanuel workshop and has been working very hard to add a few of Tommy's tunes to his repertoire.  Tonight at a benefit for public radio station 90.5 at Scotty McBean's Coffee Shop in Beechwold - he donned a thumb pick and debuted his first public performance of a couple of Tommy's tunes:  Man with a Green Thumb, and, Chet's Ramble.  He was out of sight.

Tommy Emmanuel is probably the most talented finger style guitarist alive today and it is wonderful to see that Jim has added his music to his venue.  Jim and Tommy have similar very energetic approaches to their performances.  And, utilizing that energy, Jim is adding a wonderful new dimension to his show.

He finished the evening with a very upbeat collage of several popular tunes mixed together in Jim Volk style.  He is always a real big treat for this writer to see.
