Guitar League of Central New
York helped out in the Room with the superb playing of Loren
Barrigar and this fine lad from down under, Mark Mazengarb. |
|
Loren is a top notched player -
and, singer. |
|
Sheridan Bowman and Lyn Clapp
provided two of the best sets we had all week. |
Paul Yandell Tribute |
|
|
Craig Dobbins and Darrell Toney
kicked off the Paul Yandell Tribute with "In the
Garden" - Pauls first finger style tune. |
|
Richard Smith chimed in with
Paul's composition I've Been Lucky. |
|
New performer at CAAS, Mark
Hill, from the Maritimes, Canada played Goin' Home for
Paul. |
|
Student of Craig Dobbins, Bill
Monk, played Within My Heart for Paul. |
|
After the Tribute Paul took
center stage to talk to the packed room about his time with Chet. |
|
He also spent quite a bit of
time talking about the new Gretsch guitar he was responsible for designing to
Chet's specs. |
|
Paul and Palmer. |
|
Ray Espinoza and JD
Norman. Ray is an incredible guitarist - bring a mellow
jazz flavor to all of our thumb style tunes. |
|
JD Norman was in quite the
demand as an accompanist. Here's he taken the lead for
Jesse Rhodes. |
|
One of my highlights of the
2008 convention was hearing Julian Smith play two selections off
Chet's "From Nashville with Love" album - English
Leather and Ai Di La - with the Endless Roads strings.
Simply beautiful. Not a dry eye in the place. |
|
Always one of our favorites at
any CASS convention is Rock n Roll Hall of Famer - Nokie
Edwards. Here he is in the lobby showing Edgar Cruz a lick
or two. |
|
Paul Moseley and his son
Michael on bass closed out the Belmont Room late Saturday
afternoon with some fine thumb pickin. Paul's got the
"best thumb" in the business. |
|
And, they let me provide some
rhythm guitar. Oh, I guess I did take a lead on the C
verse in Three Little Words...
Thanks, all - this convention was a
blast. And, thanks for coming in our "little slice of
heaven" at CAAS. |
|
Joe Payne's very pretty
daughter, Janie, and her husband Mark Gayhart. |
|
My new buddy and late night
hero, Joe Payne. |
|
We ain't always pretty,
folks. This is me teaching my dad, JD Norman (lol), a
couple licks - really late on Saturday night. I guess you
could say - Sunday morning!!! |
