vocalist with an R&B group called Dark Star
based out of West Virginia. After touring with Dark Star
for two years, she returned home to sing with a local
group called Unity that was the opening act for Phyllis
Hyman and Pieces of a Dream in concert at Central State
University.
Inspired
to change her focus to jazz, Tia began receiving vocal
coaching with Columbus Jazz legend, Michele Horsefield.
Tia
then met guitarist, Stan Smith, who was instrumental in
broadening her jazz repertoire that has enabled her to
become a very successful jazz vocalist in the Columbus
area.
Tia
has toured, recorded and appeared with many local groups
and artists as an independent singer for over 25 years.
She has sung on numerous occasions with The Stan Smith
Band, The Jazz Professors, The Columbus Jazz Orchestra,
and Steve Newby and Conversation Pieces from Indiana.
Her
biggest accomplishment was performing internationally with
The Columbus Jazz Orchestra in Spain and Denmark as their
featured vocalist to the delight of audiences at every
stop.
Tia
has sung as lead and backup vocalist on many recordings,
commercials, corporate videos and promotions; and has
recorded with internationally famed artist Kim Pensyl. She
has sung The National Anthem for opening games; and
performs at weddings, wedding receptions, concerts,
festivals, parties and special projects and events.
In
2008, Tia decided to join the vocal group Vocal Impact,
and performed the concert series Big Band Meets Broadway
with the Columbus Jazz Orchestra at the Southern
Theatre as well as the summer JazZoo series in
Columbus, Ohio.
Music
has always been and always will be Tia’s number one
passion.
