Review - Jim Powell - "class
act" -
by Palmer Moore
We are such lucky
people to be fans of the Famous Jazz Orchestra with
it's vast array of great musicians that enjoy volunteering
their time to play their hearts out for us. One of the
crowd favorites when he "takes one" has got to be
trumpet player, Jim Powell - however, we don't
typically get to hear quite enough of him on Mondays.
So, a few of us "regulars" had dinner together
this past Saturday evening at the Haiku restaurant in
the Short North where Jim was playing with the Louise
Salvadore Quartet. He lead every set off with
2 or 3 solo tunes that featured his musical genius - then,
took leads on all the rest - leaving us with little left to
ask of him. He was brilliant - and, what a "class
act!"
