Trumpet Section

Erik Gimbel - lead  Erik joined FJO in '97 as a lead trumpet player.  He got a BA from Capital University and has played with many bands: Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, Columbus Jazz Orchestra, Paul Ferguson Jazz Orchestra, Ernie Krirda's Fat Tuesday Big Band, The Nelson Riddle Orchestra, The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra led by Buddy Morrow, The Rick Brunetto Big Band, Toni Tennille, Marie Osmond, Don Rickles, Joan Rivers, and others.  Besides the FJO he is currently also playing with Dave Bank Big Band in the Cleveland area.  Other than music, he is currently a remodeling contractor/real estate investor.
Larry Everhart - A practicing (not on us (lol) physician, Larry has been out letting his musical alter ego as a trumpet/flugelhorn player with the FJO since the '90s and a God-send whenever they need "high notes."  He is also currently a member of the Rick Brunetto Big Band.  Doc got his plethora of bachelor & medical degrees from The OSU, however his musical education came from listening to Maynard & Bobby.  Other bands he has played with are Doc Everhart & John Mack Orchestra, The Majestics, Everhart's Energy and the Jim Lynch Band.  Also, as a patron of the arts, Larry would like to "thank the local band leaders for their efforts and dedication to keeping big band jazz alive."
Jim Powell - Low key, unassuming, but a brilliant talent, Jim is a graduate of OSU & North Texas State.  He has played in the big bands of Buddy Rich and Woody Herman, and played a weekly gig at the Village Vanguard in New York City with the Mel Lewis Big Band. He now, also, plays with the Columbus Jazz Orchestra.  Here is a neat biography of Jim by by Eugene Chadbourne on "allmusic.com".
Bob Larson - Talk about low key - I don't think Bob would say much if you hit him with a school bus!  But, Bob proves that "still water runs deep" - great horn player.  He obtained a Bachelor of Music from OSU in '77 in Theory/Composition - and, has been playing in a local 40s/rock/soul band every since - originally called Crosswinds, but now called Jamburger."

He joined FJO in the late 90's and has helped many subs for Jim Powell "find their place," and has also contributed a few arrangements to Vaughn's "book."  He says his most memorable jazz listening experience was hearing Jeanette Williams and Hank Marr do "Over the Rainbow" - it literally made him cry.  Other than music, he is retired from the computer/accounting area.
